Pastoral Curacy Program

Program Description: The Pastoral Curacy was created in 2015 for the purpose of giving a recently ordained priest (or postulant) an opportunity to transition from seminary to parish ministry with the goal of being spiritually formed and practically prepared for Anglican ministry in the ACNA. Over the course of two years, the curate works closely with a priest/supervisor. The curate is involved in every aspect of parish ministry and also participates in a formation program.

Areas of Involvement and Learning: The Pastoral Curate will work under the direct supervision of one of St. Peter’s Cathedral Canons. In the course of this curacy, the Pastoral Curate will also be assigned pastoral and liturgical responsibilities within the life of the cathedral. The Pastoral Curate will also have the opportunity for an immersive and mentored experience in ordained ministry with a focus on pastoral care.

Current Status:

The Curacy is currently filled until May of 2025. Applications for the 2025 Curacy will be accepted shortly.

Current Pastoral Curate

Ryan Cecil, 2023-25 Charles Simeon Curate

Ryan Cecil grew up in the Piedmont region of North Carolina where both sides of his family have been rooted for generations.  He was fortunate to grow up in the church built on his great-grandparents’ farm laying the foundation for his walk with the Lord.  Prior to receiving a call to ministry in 2019, he had a 17-year career in the furniture industry both in design and marketing.  In the summer of 2022, he was introduced to St. Peter’s when he had the privilege of serving as a summer fellow through the Charles Simeon Institute.  In May of 2023, he graduated from Trinity School for Ministry with a Master of Divinity degree and felt a call to return to St. Peter’s to serve as the Pastoral Curate.  Currently, he is in the ordination process in the Gulf Atlantic Diocese and looks forward to what awaits on his path to ordained ministry.  A lover of people and fostering communities of faith; he is honored to serve the church and help make disciples of Jesus Christ.  In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, fly fishing, exploring back roads, history, horticulture, a good book, and anything to do with animals.
